Federación Liniers4 - 2La cuarta

Federación Liniers produced a commanding display at home and dispatched Argentinos de Barracas 4-2 in a result that was never in doubt. The hosts controlled the tempo of a match in which both sides arrived with similar systems, but where the difference was clear in their finishing: every time Liniers reached the opposition box, they knew what to do. Argentinos de Barracas left the match unable to find a way to neutralise an attacking flow that ultimately proved irresistible.

Pipa Ojeda was Federación Liniers’ compass: the 21-year-old centre-back not only closed down the lines with the solidity he learned in the rough neighbourhoods of his childhood, but also contributed in attack with a goal and an assist. Valentín Valeriani, still possessing that instinct for being where the ball is at 28, added another goal. The 19-year-old Paraguayan Axel Bonomi also got on the scoresheet. Liniers’ ability to involve their defenders in attack was the tactical key to the afternoon. Pocho Beitia, 31 and with veteran instinct, albeit a little faded, pulled one back for Argentinos de Barracas, as did Cristian Koch from the defence, but it was too little, too late. Lionel Mansur at left-back for the hosts picked up a yellow card but kept the shape solid when necessary.

The visitors failed to devise a Plan B after being taken out of the match. Koch at the back was able to get into the opposition box, but it was not enough to overturn a deficit that grew as the minutes passed. Federación Liniers continue their positive run in Primera I - GBA Oeste. Argentinos de Barracas will have to review how they became so defensively porous in a formation that promised balance.
