Unión Once1 - 0Def. Retiro Oeste

Unión Once claimed a victory that felt deserved at home, beating Defensa de Retiro Oeste by the odd goal in three on matchday 16 of Primera I of GBA Norte. The 1-0 sums up what happened well: a match in which both teams tacitly respected each other, two 4-4-2 formations with little ambition to break the deadlock, where the home side ended up being more effective at the crucial moment. It was not an overwhelming display, but Unión Once had enough clarity of thought not to relinquish their advantage and put their home edge on the scoreboard.

Javier Biagini, with his thirty-two years of pure experience, was the pivot who allowed Unión Once to maintain consistency in attack. His 7.7 rating reflects what he showed on the pitch: a forward who still knows where the ball is. In defence, Santiago Ferreyra fulfilled his role as a centre-back with ease, while Sebastian Vicente at left-back provided security in an area Defensa de Retiro Oeste tried to exploit without success. Tito Montenegro was booked but was not tested beyond that. For the visitors, Yanis Braun did what he could from the left wing, although his 6.7 rating neatly sums up the effort without much impact. Ángel Aldazabal in the opposing defence shored up a back line that, without being spectacular, knew how to close ranks when necessary.

The match was decided by fine margins. Defensa de Retiro Oeste failed to convert their chances, if indeed they had several. Unión Once took the one that mattered. This is football at this stage of the season in the suburban leagues: matches where 7-rated players face 6-rated players, where there is no magic but there are three points. Valuable points for the home side. Unfinished business for the visitors.
