Patriotas Pompeya3 - 1Club Deportivo Veteranos de Malvinas

Patriotas Pompeya showed no mercy. With a solid performance and by taking advantage of the visitor’s defensive errors, they saw off Deportivo Caballito Veteranos at home with a scoreline that leaves no room for interpretation: 3–1. The home side controlled the tempo of the match without needing to commit to constant attacks, with both teams’ 4-4-2 formations combining to produce football that was more orderly than entertaining, though undoubtedly favourable to the side playing at home.

Ciro Bettega was the star of the afternoon. The eighteen-year-old forward scored twice and confirmed that Patriotas Pompeya have more than just promising youngsters: they have the real thing. His rating of 8.4 was no coincidence on an afternoon when the visiting defenders gave him space that the youngster knew how to exploit with pace and clinical finishing. Geremías Fernández, a twenty-four-year-old midfielder who moved from Resistencia years ago, added a goal amid his balanced work in the centre of the pitch, as well as picking up a yellow card for his enthusiasm. In defence, Nene Caparros, the thirty-three-year-old veteran with boots that tell stories of the neighbourhood, contributed his experience with an assist that showed experienced footballers still have a place. Saúl Tassone in goal, another thirty-something from Bahia, did not need to do too much to justify his presence.

For the visitors, Galo Schulz pulled one back with a goal but could do little else against a Patriotas side that controlled the pace without any scares. Deportivo Caballito Veteranos left Pompeya beaten and without any grounds for complaint, with a defence that conceded what it should not have conceded. For the winners, a comfortable victory that puts them in a good position in the northern GBA zone. For the losers, a defeat that demands a review before their next fixture.
