Cooperativa San Telmo1 - 0Sociedad Villa Lugano

Cooperativa San Telmo knew how to solve on the pitch what, in tactical plans, seemed much more even. Sociedad Villa Lugano arrived in La Boca with an identical formation, with the same balanced mindset, but the home side found in Faustino Aguirre the difference they were missing. The twenty-four-year-old right-back, born in Comodoro Rivadavia where the YPF refinery shaped his childhood, netted a goal in the second half that ended up being the killer blow in a match where neither side seemed willing to take unnecessary risks. It was a 1-0 win earned more through solidity than attacking thrust.

San Telmo defended with intelligence. Elián Coelho, the twenty-eight-year-old Merleño left-back, controlled his flank without fuss. Jeremías Trevisan in central midfield was the one who snuffed out Villa Lugano’s early attempts to find space, although the visiting defence with Osvaldo García marshalling from the centre held firm for practically the whole afternoon. Kevin Rizzo, the thirty-seven-year-old right winger with a calm, unflustered approach, did his job without any great fanfare. Liam Baldini, the Mendoza-born attacking midfielder of just seventeen, had to battle harder than expected against opponents who knew how to mark in pairs.

For the visitors, Eduardo Sevilla tried to cause problems whenever he could in attack, but the twenty-year-old forward found no support. Brian Iglesias in goal had a quiet afternoon, although he was booked in the closing minutes for a minor scuffle. San Telmo take three points on matchday five, allowing them to keep up the pace in the zone. Villa Lugano leave with nothing, as happens when the plans are symmetrical but one side finds the detail the other did not see coming.
