Match report

Provincia de Almagro did not need too much drama to sweep aside Deportivo Caballito Veteranos on matchday 9 of Primera I GBA Norte. A comfortable 2-0, the product of a balanced approach where the home side managed the tempo without urgency and the visitors never found a way to trouble them. Both teams came out with similar setups, 4-4-2 formations and balanced mentalities, but the difference lay in the execution and the details that decide these mid-table fixtures in the competition.

The goals came from the least expected places in a side not known for star forwards. Benjamín Tévez, the 29-year-old Patagonian striker who rarely steps out of the shadows, opened the scoring as the match was only just warming up. Then it was Pichu Feldman, that 29-year-old centre-back who was forged in the hard graft of the Bahía Blanca docks, who pushed forward and put the result beyond doubt. With a rating of 7.2 in both cases, these were not dazzling displays but they were timely, pragmatic. Pocho Becker, a 31-year-old winger and the home side’s best with a 7.7 rating, controlled the left flank without any great fuss. Mati Pellegrini at full-back did his job, while Adrián León, the youngest centre-back in the squad at just 20 years old, picked up a yellow card but stayed solid.

At the other end, Caballito were never able to put together a credible attacking plan. Daniel Huber in midfield showed his limitations with a 6.6 rating, while Ramiro Forni, the Uruguayan midfielder of only 17 years, displayed the innocence of his age. Ronaldo Bonomi at left-back also saw yellow and rarely managed to cause any damage. A match where Provincia managed their lead without overexertion, confirming that in this part of the competition, comfortable wins are what let you sleep soundly afterwards.
