Match report
Pibes Montserrat took a victory of the sort that carries more weight than the scoreline suggests. With a 1-0 win over Federación Mataderos on their own pitch, the Primera I - GBA Norte side picked up three points on matchday 11, a game that could have ended differently if the visitors had been sharper in the final metres. Two teams with identical set-ups, both in a balanced 4-4-2, looked to control things without taking too many risks. Misael Altolaguirre’s goal from the left was enough to settle a battle in which nobody wanted to give up an inch.
The difference lay in the details that football at this level does not forgive. Genaro Giménez, Resistencia’s right-back who joined the club almost by chance, did his job without fuss but with solidity in every defensive intervention. In midfield, Enrique Karam, at 32, and Silvio Sacchi, the 37-year-old veteran who bears the scar of his everyday battles, closed spaces with experience. Federación Mataderos had no consistent attacking response: Walter Bernardini on the right flank offered little movement, and Lucio Rebollo, Resistencia’s striker, was left isolated without team-mates creating the play to feed him. Vito Visini in the visitors’ goal was not to blame for the result, but nor did he come under sustained pressure.
The home side managed the match like someone in control of a situation without needing to prove anything else. Julián Sotelo, the number nine with his street scar on his eyebrow, tried, but without the constant support a striker needs to prosper. Federación Mataderos left the stadium having never found the attacking consistency to truly trouble Pibes Montserrat. A fair, tight win, the sort that in Argentine leagues is worth its weight in gold when the set-ups are barely distinguishable and the side that makes fewer mistakes comes out on top.
