Match report

General Güemes de Balvanera took a deserved win from Defensa de Caballito Oeste's stadium on matchday 11 of Primera L - GBA Oeste. The goal arrived without drama, without those film-like finales the home side would have preferred, but with the tactical solidity of an away side that knew how to manage its resources. Both squads lined up in equivalent formations, balanced 4-4-2s, which promised a fixture with no great differences in intent. And so it proved: tight, sparing in excitement, where the fine error ended up proving more decisive than inspiration.

Defensa de Caballito Oeste was not short of desire. Bartolozzi, the 29-year-old Bahía Blanca left-back, tried to contribute from his flank, while in midfield Szymanski, with his 24 years and his spell in Resistencia, looked to build play forward. Lucio Lima, the Patagonian striker who knows the mud and the wind of Comodoro Rivadavia, had chances but could not finish. General Güemes, by contrast, with a squad in which the experience of midfielders such as Yáñez, aged 28, shines through, and the defensive block led by Klein in the holding role, was more efficient. Mejia on the away left added his 7.6 rating with consistency, and Berman up front took advantage of the space with the cynicism of someone who grew up on a rough pitch. Valentín Zerbi in the away goal, that 25-year-old lifesaver who arrived with broken gloves but pent-up anger, was barely tested.

The away win, although modest in numbers, reflects an uncomfortable truth for the home side: in Primera L - GBA Oeste, effort alone is not enough. The efficiency belonged to the team that best interpreted the fixture, without flourish or pretension. Defensa de Caballito Oeste will have to review why home dominance did not translate into real danger. General Güemes, minimal and secure, adds three points that keep them in the hunt.
