Reservas Boedo1 - 1Atlético Villa Devoto FC

Reservas Boedo and Atlético Villa Devoto FC shared the points in a fixture where both sides prioritised defensive organisation over attacking ambition. The final 1-1 fairly reflects what happened on the Boedo pitch: two sides lined up in 4-4-2 with a balanced mindset, with no intention of forcing the issue or exposing themselves unnecessarily. The match had the predictable rhythm of a matchday where nobody wanted to lose, although nobody was bold enough to win.

Gabriel Lima opened the scoring for the home side with a goal that came when Boedo seemed to have better control of the game. The 26-year-old central midfielder, born in Comodoro Rivadavia, had his best night in defensive duties before popping up with an opportunity in attack. Elías Bazzani, the 22-year-old midfielder from Mendoza, provided the assist in one of the few clear-cut moves of the first half. Lucho Taveggia, the Uruguayan attacking midfielder for Villa Devoto, levelled things up with a goal that came when the visitors were starting to move the ball better. Ezequiel Vitale, the experienced 33-year-old centre-back, had to step in more than once to stop the visitors’ attackers, although he did pick up a yellow card for his active role in the marking. Gastón Lara, the left-back in the Villa Devoto side with Patagonian experience, was the one who provided the assist for the equaliser.

The draw leaves Reservas Boedo with a result that adds to the battle near the top of the group, although without the win that would have cemented their position more strongly. For Villa Devoto, the point rescued away from home has its value, although once again the team failed to turn spells of control into victory. Ángel Marchetti, the 20-year-old winger from Mendoza, was wayward in the final third. Both coaches will need to assess whether this defensive set-up is what they need in future.
