Match report

General Alvear de Once took a deserved win from Pompeya's pitch in a match where both sides set out in the same way, but the visitors executed their weapons better. It finished 2-1 in favour of the Once side, who knew how to ration their energy and make the most of the home side's moments of defensive disorder. A fair result in a Primera L de CABA where both were after the same thing: balanced control in midfield and tidy circulation going forward.

Pompeya had in Néstor Vianello their biggest attacking threat. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder, from Merlo, scored one of the home side's goals in a match where he was one of the few who tried to break the lines with purpose. Gabriel Santamaría, the right-back who is only 16, provided an assist that confirmed his willingness to attack, although his inexperience also cost him dearly defensively. At the other end, General Alvear built their victory on firmer foundations. Coco Granado, the 31-year-old midfielder born in Comodoro, was the visitors' orchestrator with a 7.7 rating that was justified in every tackle and every pass. Alexis Aizaga, an experienced left-back, controlled the flank with the calm of someone who knows what he is doing after two decades in football.

The visitors' goals came from Emanuel Molina and José Couto, both with a 7.2 rating. Molina, a 24-year-old centre-back who arrived at General Alvear with little fanfare but a hunger to prove himself, opened the scoring. Couto, the veteran 34-year-old forward with a past at Bahía Blanca, sealed it when the match was already showing signs of an away dominance that was growing. Antonio Zumpano was booked, which affected his defensive play in the closing minutes. For Pompeya, the defeat leaves the feeling of a side that could not contain the opposition's tempo when it needed to most. General Alvear take three precious points in the battle to keep their distance in the table.
