Match report
Defensa de Retiro Oeste left no room for surprises on matchday 17 of Primera I - GBA Norte. With a comfortable 3-1 win over El Porvenir de San Telmo, the home side imposed their style from the early stages and managed their lead without too many scares. Both teams lined up in similar formations, balanced 4-4-2s, but it was the hosts who found their shape better on the pitch. El Porvenir tried to compete away from home with what they had, but lacked the precision to truly trouble Diego Brambilla in goal.
Centre-back Ángel Aldazabal was an awkward opponent for the visitors: not only did he score one of the goals, he also provided assists, showing that the game is not solely about attacking. At 31, Aldazabal plays with a solidity that makes up for his lack of spectacular qualities. In attack, Yanis Braun, the left winger already approaching his thirties, appeared when needed and made his mark on the scoresheet. Midfielder Mirko Arcuri, an experienced central midfielder at 31, had to deal with a yellow card but kept order in the middle of the pitch. Antonio Couto pulled one back for El Porvenir in the second half, but it was little more than a footnote on an afternoon when Retiro Oeste controlled the pace of the match.
El Porvenir were not an irrelevant opponent —Damian Mazur tried to create chances down the left with his assist— but they lacked the necessary cutting edge to make things more difficult. With this victory, Defensa de Retiro Oeste consolidate their position in the tournament and earn three points in convincing fashion. For the San Telmo side, the issue remains their finishing: in matches decided by fine margins, precision in the final third is what makes the difference between competing and falling by the wayside.
