Cooperativa Abasto made the most of home advantage and a match where both sides lined up with the same structure to take all three points against Real Caballito Reservas on matchday 14 of Primera L de GBA Norte. The 1-0 win was fair, the result of a tight encounter where the defences came first and the goal arrived through Raúl Marín, the 30-year-old left-back who, having come from San Miguel, found at Cooperativa Abasto a place to develop without fuss. It was a victory without any fireworks, but a convincing one: the hosts controlled the tempo without needing any exaggerated exertions.
Both set-ups in a 4-4-2 and with an even mentality produced a back-and-forth match where neither side wanted to take undue risks. Theo Álvarez in the home goal did his job without needing to make any major interventions, while for the visitors Gael Selvaggio, the 27-year-old Brazilian striker who arrived at Caballito almost by chance, did not have enough room to show his trademark two-footed ability. Cristian Basaldua in Abasto's central defence read the opposition's attacking movements well. Real Caballito had Tiago Bravo in central midfield trying to link play, but the team never found the balance needed to create sustained danger. Stefano Sarmiento, the visitors' 35-year-old right-back with a long career behind him, picked up a yellow card in his attempt to stop the hosts' advances.
The result leaves Cooperativa Abasto with a win that strengthens their position in the upper reaches, while Real Caballito Reservas will have to rework their attack if they want to improve their points tally in this second half of the season. It was not a match to remember for its brilliance, but it was one for the home side's efficiency.
