AA Villa del Parque Reserva2 - 1Círculo San Telmo

Villa del Parque gave nothing away at home. Against a Círculo San Telmo who arrived ready to compete on level terms, the home side won it fairly in a match where both teams opted for the same thing: organised football, with no tactical surprises, where the difference came down to who executed better in the moments that mattered. The 2-1 final score sums up an afternoon of Primera L in GBA Sur where there was neither space nor time to shine individually, but only to earn every yard of pitch.

Vito Pratto was the forward who made the difference, scoring one of the winning goals with the attitude of someone who treats every ball as if the debt were his own. At right-back for the visitors, Stefano Velázquez also showed the composure to score, but lacked support in attack. Tomás Strozzi in the home goal stood firm, while Augusto Riquelme, the Villa del Parque youngster who is barely eighteen, did his job on the flank although he picked up a yellow for over-enthusiasm. Yanis Cabrera, the thirty-eight-year-old midfielder who has spent almost two decades in Buenos Aires, was the quiet organiser of the home midfield, adding that measure of experience that in tight matches usually weighs more than youth.

The defeat leaves Círculo San Telmo with questions over their attacking ability away from home. Even so, the away side did not lose heart or take long to respond, which suggests their defensive structure has some backbone. For Villa del Parque, this win against a stubborn rival is the sort of result that consolidates positions in the zone, nothing glamorous but effective. Simón Villafañe and his teammate Vito Pratto held together a defence that was not spectacular but did the job when needed.
