Sportivo Barracas FC took full advantage of an afternoon on which Sportivo Caballito FC found no attacking answers to take all three points away from home on the opening matchday of Primera E de CABA. A goal from Cristian Etcheverry near the end of the match settled a tight contest in which both sides used the same 4-4-2 tactical set-up, but the visitors showed greater efficiency when it mattered most. Caballito set out to play a balanced game from the outset, with Ricardo Caruso anchoring the midfield and Leonardo Torres looking to bring clarity in the middle of the pitch from his role as an attacking midfielder. However, the home side's efforts did not translate into real goalscoring chances, and Barracas's defence, with Etcheverry alert on the left flank, kept a firm hold on the left-back Nicolás Aguirre, the thirty-five-year-old veteran who failed to produce the necessary width to breach that area.
Barracas came to this pitch with a clear objective and some heavy-duty performers. Juan Sosa, the leading figure in the visitors' attacking line with a rating of 7.7, did not have much of a role in open play but was where he needed to be at key moments. Gonzalo Bastianelli, his partner in attacking midfield, was incisive in distributing the ball, allowing the winning team to maintain quick transitions from recovery. Chino Foyth in the visitors' goal, though he was not faced with any major danger, gave a sense of security with his thirty-five years of experience.
Etcheverry's late goal sealed a more than deserved win for the Barracas side. The left-back, who became the main man after being a defensive stand-out throughout the whole match, found the space needed in the final stretch to make it 1-0, which Caballito could not prevent. A result that shows how football rewards clarity and efficiency, virtues the home side lacked on an afternoon where little was played but much was decided.
