Futbol Puchito1 - 0Círculo San Telmo

Argentino de Versalles took a narrow victory over Círculo San Telmo on matchday 17 of Primera L - GBA Sur, in a match where both sides tried to impose their game from the 4-4-2 but neither managed to produce the football they probably had in mind. Versalles' pitch was the stage for a tactical encounter, where the opponents' mistakes weighed more than their own virtues, and where the home side's experience ultimately made the difference over the ninety minutes.

The home side found in Indio Rivero a midfielder who organised the action from the middle of the pitch with clarity, a 28-year-old who read the match well and knew when to press and when to ease off. In attack, Argentino de Versalles looked to exploit the flanks, where Héctor Krawczyk, the 36-year-old left winger, was a constant threat. The veteran from Bahía Blanca showed that age is no barrier when there is intelligence in the game, and ended up being the architect of the afternoon's only goal. Dylan Yedlin, the 17-year-old centre-back, showed the composure typical of good readers of the game, anticipating moves in defence without unnecessary fuss. Ian Zardini in goal did his job without any scares, although he was booked during the match.

Círculo San Telmo came with intent but their playmakers could not find the space needed to produce the football the team required. Hernán Basili, the 30-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder, could not knit the play together as he usually does, constantly marked by Rivero and Versalles' midfielders. Kevin Iriarte in defence and José Romiti in midfield fulfilled a holding role but could not go beyond that. The visitors created chances but lacked that bit of execution that would have allowed them to leave with something from the rivals' ground.

Krawczyk scored the goal that settled the match with his experience intact, finishing in a way that reflected how he had played throughout: reading space, anticipating movement. A goal that did not come out of nowhere but from Argentino de Versalles' constant work in their bid to break the visitors down. Círculo San Telmo had their moments but could not make them count. The result was fair in a match where the home side was more effective in its ambitions.

The win keeps Argentino de Versalles in the hunt for the top spots in the group, while San Telmo will have to rethink how to regain consistency in their next outings. A match of the kind that decides championships: not the most eye-catching, but the one that left victory with the side that made the best of its chances.
