Reservas Boedo and Deportivo Villa Crespo Veterans shared the points in a match that had everything: goals, tempo, defensive errors and the sense that both could have won it. The 3-3 at Boedo's pitch was the reflection of two teams with similar approaches who failed to find the solidity needed to see out a result. Primera L de CABA is once again serving up wasted emotion when victory was there for the taking.
Gabriel Lima was the best midfielder on the pitch. The Boedo midfielder not only scored a goal but also provided assists with intelligence, showing why his 7.7 rating is among the highest in the match. In the away side, Nicolás Vallejos answered in kind with identical numbers: a goal and an assist, proving both teams had their compasses well calibrated in the game. Villa Crespo attacked with Rodolfo Zapata and Pancho De Santis adding goals too, while at Boedo Víctor Retegui got on the scoresheet from defence. The problem was not a lack of attacking firepower but rather the frailty at the back. Elián Ulloa and the full-backs failed to contain the home side's attacking flow, and Walter Mazur ended up booked out of frustration.
The most worrying thing for both was their inability to hold on to a lead. Boedo had chances to kill the match off but a lack of mental sharpness, not talent, cost them the points. Chacho Espinosa, at 33 years of age, showed the craft of a veteran but lacked that touch of coolness to put it to bed. For Villa Crespo, travelling from the capital without defeat is never a bad result, but they went home with the feeling of having left three points in Boedo that could have been theirs. On matchday 2, draws like these are signs of uncomfortable parity.
