A free alternative to Football Manager, online and against real people
Football Manager is the deepest single-player simulation there is, and nothing here pretends otherwise. ELDT answers a different question: what if the other 15 managers in your league were real people, the matches had a fixed kick-off time and the club kept living while you were at work?
Where they differ
Opponents. In FM you play against the AI. In ELDT every club is run by a person; where one is missing, the game fills it under the same rules until someone takes it.
Time. FM runs as fast as you click. ELDT runs in real time: league matches on Thursdays and Saturdays from 19:00 UK time, a cup on Tuesdays, European cups on Wednesdays, a transfer market with three-day auctions that end whether you are there or not.
Hardware and price. FM is a paid download with a yearly edition. ELDT is free and runs in any browser with no download, on a phone too.
Clubs. FM has licensed real clubs. ELDT has fictional clubs with English names, in a pyramid of 341 leagues and 5,456 clubs, that you shape yourself: squad, ground, history.

What you will recognise
Attributes and form, tactics and set pieces, training by skill, scouts and a youth academy, contracts, finances, board objectives and a ground to develop. The vocabulary is the same; the difference is that the person who beats you is reading the same table as you.
Which one is for you?
If you want to take Accrington to the Champions League over a long weekend, play FM. If you want ten minutes a day, a rivalry with real people and a season that unfolds over weeks, ELDT is built for that. Plenty of people play both.
What a week in ELDT looks like
League matches on Thursday and Saturday from 19:00 UK time, kicking off in waves every 15 minutes. The ELDT Cup on Tuesday, a knockout by level so you face clubs of your own size. European cups on Wednesday for the best clubs of each country. Friendlies on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and private leagues on Sunday. The youth tournament plays on Thursday and Saturday mornings at 07:00. A season is 30 matchdays in a league of 16 clubs, with promotion for the champion, a play-off for the runner-up and relegation for the bottom four. The full rundown is here.
How to start
Sign up in two minutes, with no card. You get a club at the bottom of the pyramid with a full squad, an academy, a ground and a budget. Pick your eleven before the next match, set the week's training and have a look at the market. If you do nothing, the game still fields your best eleven, so you never forfeit. England opens on 7 January 2027; until then you can leave your email on the English home page and we will tell you when the doors open.
Frequently asked questions
Is ELDT as detailed as Football Manager?
It is deep in a different way: fewer menus, but real opponents, a real calendar and a market that moves on its own. The daily routine is minutes, not hours.
Can I speed up time?
No. The world is shared, so time is shared: two league matchdays a week for everyone.
Are there real clubs and players?
No. Clubs and players are fictional, with English names, and you build their history.
Does it cost anything?
Nothing. There is an optional Supporter membership for identity and conveniences, never for advantage.
