Monte grande FC1 - 0Tandilocuentes Unidos

El Vencedor de Parque Chacabuco took a deserved win on the opening matchday of the Primera I-GBA Sur, with Mati Jiménez’s goal proving the difference against Defensor San Cristóbal Oeste. It was a tight match where both sides came out with the same idea: an even 4-4-2 that promised few tactical surprises. And so it proved. Neither side looked to take too many risks away from home or at home, which led to a match short on excitement but high in defensive intensity. The home side managed to be more clinical in the only moment that mattered.

Rodrigo Astudillo, the Mendoza-born striker aged thirty-three, had a good match with a 7.7 rating although he finished on a yellow card. Alongside him, Faustino Zerbi, just twenty-four, did his job without standing out too much. In midfield, Toto Bisi orchestrated things solidly from the middle of the pitch while Damian Lagos added steel at left-back. Mati Jiménez, the Uruguayan winger aged 27, was the one who made the difference with the goal that settled the night. For the visitors, Edgardo Flores tried to hold firm in defence with his experience at thirty-five, but it was not enough to prevent the goal. Federico Arazandi, the twenty-five-year-old centre-back, did his job tidily in the back line, while Joel Ayub could not create danger down the left in attack.

For Defensor San Cristóbal Oeste, there is the frustration of not having created enough chances to hope for anything more than a draw. El Vencedor start the season with three points, a result that counts as deserved but without much cause for celebration. It remains to be seen how they maintain this rhythm in the coming matchdays.
