Match report
Independiente Villa Soldati and Deportivo Mataderos Veteranos shared the points in a match where both had their moments of glory but neither managed to shut the door when it mattered most. The 2-2 draw on the opening matchday of Primera I GBA Sur left both sides with mixed feelings: Villa Soldati missed the chance to win at home, while Mataderos Veteranos were content with the point but knew they had chances to take more from it.
The home side controlled parts of the match thanks to their balanced midfield, where Thiago Salvatore, right-back Alejandro Leyva and Marcelo Gallardo's experience in attack organised the play from midfield forwards. Leyva opened the scoring with a goal that seemed to put things in Villa Soldati's favour, but Deportivo Mataderos Veteranos were not discouraged. David Moya, the 22-year-old Paraguayan striker, netted the temporary equaliser and gave the visitors a lift in a match where both defences showed vulnerabilities. Lucho Bruno, Mataderos' 21-year-old centre-back, also got on the scoresheet and made it 2-1, seemingly steering the visitors towards victory. However, Villa Soldati responded with a goal from Oscar Puentes, the 21-year-old centre-back who found space to level the contest.
The final result keeps expectations alive at both clubs, but it also raises questions. Neither Villa Soldati could make home advantage count nor Mataderos could close out their chances. Stefano Beltrame and his centre-back pairing at Villa Soldati had to work overtime against a visiting side that moved with tactical ease. The next matchday will tell whether this was a point gained or two points dropped.
