Match report

El Vencedor of Parque Chacabuco took a deserved victory on Def. San Cristóbal Oeste's pitch with a 2-1 result that neatly sums up what was a tight match between two teams who opted for the same approach: an organised 4-4-2 with no pretensions of revolutionising football. The home side were never superior at any point, although they did have spells when they might have created more danger. Benicio Schmitt, a thirty-year-old central midfielder with the solidity of someone who has worked hard all his life, scored San Cristóbal's goal, but it was not enough to hold on to the draw. El Vencedor had the edge in possession and in efficiency.

Faustino Zerbi was the visitors' standout, with the technical ability you'd expect from a twenty-four-year-old striker still in the process of establishing himself. He scored a goal and provided an assist that made clear his influence in attack. Quique Bauer also found the net from right-back, something he does well every now and then. Mati Jiménez, the left winger, moved well down his side, although he picked up a yellow card that shows the intensity he had to put in. Milton Bartolini in defence did his job without any scares, that sort of seven-rated performance that officials in the division appreciate in a centre-half who is not out chasing glory.

For Def. San Cristóbal Oeste, there is the feeling of a match that could have been handled better in transition. It was not a disaster, but the visitors knew how to make the most of the space. El Vencedor of Parque Chacabuco add three valuable points in Primera I Sur with a practical, organised display, nothing spectacular but decisive. On matchday 16, that is what counts.
