General Alvear de Once1 - 0Atlético Villa Devoto FC

General Alvear de Once beat Atlético Villa Devoto FC with a goal from José Couto in a match where both sides set up the same way, but the home team were more clinical in the finish. In Primera L de CABA, matchday 11, the result was 1-0 in a tight contest where the balanced 4-4-2 line-ups left little room for attacking flourishes. The Bahía Blanca striker, 34, took advantage of a situation in which Villa Devoto had no clear defensive answer, and settled what was more of a tactical battle than a spectacle.

Kevin Sassi in the General Alvear goal put in a 7.7-rated performance, marshalling a defence that kept the visitors’ efforts at bay. Alexis Aizaga on the left and Claudio Gallardo on the right did their defensive job without any major alarms, while in midfield José Riquelme was the organiser of the home side’s play. Couto was not an especially busy striker in terms of touches, but he was there when it mattered. At the other end, goalkeeper Giuliano Biagioli had barely any noteworthy interventions beyond picking the ball out of the net after the goal. Lucho Taveggia was booked for the visitors, which speaks of a tense match but without major incidents. Pepe Krause tried to make an impact from the visiting defence, although with a 6.5 rating that shows a degree of imprecision.

For Villa Devoto, there was the feeling that they lacked an attacking edge at key moments. The balanced mentality did not allow excessive risks, but it also did not create enough chances to apply pressure. General Alvear picked up three points that keep them in the running in the middle of the table, while the visitors will need to sharpen their attacking connections if they are not to fall behind. One of those matches where efficiency mattered more than beauty.
