Match report
Sportivo Flores Sur knew how to manage their resources at Flores Sur and took three points off Nueva Estrella Almagro in a match where balance was the dominant feature. With identical line-ups and even mentalities, both teams looked to impose their game without giving up caution, which led to a tight fixture where the details and composure in the key moments ended up tipping the scales in favour of the home side. Walter Montero opened the scoring in the first half for the home side, a goal that came as the result of sustained pressure in midfield. Nueva Estrella Almagro equalised through Cristian Altuna, the thirty-two-year-old centre-back who remains an awkward obstacle in the opposition box even when he pushes forward. The equaliser gave the visitors a lift, but Sportivo Flores Sur did not lose concentration.
In the second half, Bautista Peñaloza turned the match around for the hosts, a midfielder of just twenty-one years old who showed the nous to drive forward when the match called for more direct play. Nueva Estrella Almagro had their chances, especially Leonardo Zanchetta down the left, where the young Mendoza full-back of seventeen years old tried to create danger with crosses that found no accurate finish. Alfredo Saliba, in midfield, was the compass for Sportivo Flores Sur, winning duels and distributing with precision, allowing the team to control the tempo. Mirko Ordoñez in the Flores Sur goal did his bit without dazzling; in the end, the 2-1 was fair.
For Nueva Estrella Almagro there is the frustration of not having made the most of their moment in the second half, when the match was open. Sportivo Flores Sur, by contrast, cemented their run in the Primera L de CABA with three points that are worth more for how they were earned than for the margin of the scoreline.
