Reservas Boedo ripped Unión Palermo Hollywood apart with a level of efficiency that left no room for interpretation. The 4-0 thrashing on matchday 11 of Primera L was the result of a home side that knew how to turn its chances into goals while the visitors fell apart tactically. Both set-ups looked similar on paper—4-4-2 formations, balanced mentalities—but the pitch told another story, one where Boedo found gaps in defence from the first half and exploited them without mercy.
Gabriel Lima was Unión Palermo Hollywood’s nightmare. The 26-year-old central midfielder, born in Comodivadavia, scored two goals and provided two assists in a performance that went beyond the numbers. With a rating of 9.4, Lima exerted absolute control in midfield, setting the tempo and taking part in every attack that ended in the net. His team-mate Elías Bazzani, the 22-year-old from Mendoza, did his job in containment while Ian Zurita on the left provided width. Rodolfo Prieto, the Paraguayan striker, also got on the scoresheet and rounded off an attacking display in which Unión could barely get a breather. Víctor Retegui at the back was solid, awkward in the challenge and dominant in aerial duels. Unión left-back Eric Zambelli picked up a yellow card in a match where his team-mates Darío Valentini and Patricio Sifuentes—both rated 6.7—were invisible. The Brazilian Sifuentes, who should be a leading figure in attack, never found space or pace to trouble anyone.
What this match leaves behind is a Reservas Boedo side laying claim to being a major force in the division and a Unión Palermo Hollywood side that will need to do some serious soul-searching. The drubbing has left too many uncomfortable questions unanswered.
