Match report
El Porvenir de San Telmo left no doubt on matchday 12 of Primera I - GBA Norte. With a 4-0 thrashing of Patriotas Pompeya, the home side picked apart a setup that on paper looked similar, but on the pitch proved wholly inadequate. Both sides went with balanced 4-4-2 formations, but the difference lay in execution: El Porvenir turned their intentions into goals, while the visitors were deflated as soon as things got difficult.
Aaron Guevara, the 19-year-old Mendoza playmaker, was the star of the afternoon. With a rating of 8.4 and two goals to his name, the youngster moved as he pleased across the pitch, finding gaps that Patriotas Pompeya never managed to close. Bastian Branca, a 34-year-old veteran who knows these provincial neighbourhoods well, added his goal and his experience. Damian Mazur from left-back also got involved in attack with a goal, while Pablo Avanzi controlled the tempo from up top with an assist. Toño Santamaría operated from the right midfield without any major complications: when the home side needed a bit of breathing room, he provided it without fuss. Their defensive solidity meant Patriotas Pompeya never managed to trouble them seriously.
For the visitors, names such as Nahuel Peñalva, Gael Bertola and Bauti Schiavi found no answers. The left winger Schiavi, at 34 years old, could not create dangerous situations. Peñalva, just a 17-year-old youngster, found himself trapped in an afternoon too big for him. El Porvenir consolidated their place in the table with this commanding display. For Patriotas Pompeya, there is only the bitter aftertaste of a thrashing that hurts more for what it showed than for what it failed to show: little or nothing.
