Match report

Defensores de Retiro Oeste took a deserved win on matchday 12 of Primera I GBA Norte against a Liniers side that arrived in La Reja looking to spring a surprise but found a well-organised, efficient team instead. The final 2-1 neatly sums up what happened on the pitch: two similar line-ups, balanced 4-4-2s, where the home side made better use of their moments. Mirko Arcuri opened the scoring with a goal that capped his fine performance from midfield, while Yanis Braun also found the back of the net. For the visitors, Nicolás Retegui pulled one back with a goal that at least meant they did not leave empty-handed, although it came too late to change the course of the fixture.

Control of the match came down to Defensores' ability to keep their shape without giving up on attack. Braun, at 31 and with that experience he brings from Rosario, was decisive down the left, creating constant danger. At the back, Bauti Hernández did his job at right-back although he picked up a yellow card that leaves him under pressure for the next commitment. Diego Brambilla in goal was secure when called upon. For Liniers, Cacho Pedraza offered an attacking presence and provided an assist, but it was not enough to break the home side's pattern. Defensores' central midfielder, with his veteran range, was the piece that worked best in the tactical balance.

The result leaves Defensores with three valuable points in the group, while Liniers are left ruing missed chances in a match where they could have taken something positive away from home. Retegui showed good defensive reactions but the team never found that moment of clarity it needed to cause more problems. For the home side, Arcuri was the best argument: at 31 he is still imposing himself in midfield and providing answers when the match demands it.
