Match report

Almagro arrived at Retiro and did the job in style. Two goals away from home, no reply at all from the hosts, and a comfortable win that should surprise nobody who has watched these sides over the past few weeks. Both squads came out in the same shape: balanced 4-4-2s, with the idea of giving nothing away. But in football, when two teams play in a similar way, it is almost always the one with the better individuals that comes out on top. And Almagro had them.

Ramón Spadafora was decisive. The 23-year-old central midfielder from Rosario scored twice and moved all over the pitch as though he had a map of Retiro in his head. An 8.4 rating and he justified it every time he touched the ball. Turco Greenberg, that 29-year-old playmaker who took time to find his place but eventually did, kept things tidy in the build-up. Nahuel Mora, just a 16-year-old youngster from Mendoza, chased every ball as if his life depended on it; he picked up a yellow card but did not flinch. Yoel Carrasco at the back was solid, and Andrés Astudillo in goal did not have to pull off any major acrobatics because the Almagro defence was serious and organised.

For Retiro, Joaco Montenegro in midfield tried his best. He is 17 years old, rating 6.7, and came down from Comodoro Rivadavia carrying a story with him. But it was not enough to contain Almagro's circulation. Tomás Mancini and Osvaldo Galindo at centre-back did their job properly, without any glaring errors, but they could not stop what was coming at them. The home side was predictable, lacking creativity in the attacking zone. They looked comfortable defensively but toothless when they had to create. Almagro left with all three points well earned, leaving more questions than answers in the part of town where Retiro play.
