Deportivo Mataderos Veteranos2 - 1Pibes Retiro

Deportivo Mataderos Veteranos took a deserved win on matchday 13 of Primera I GBA Sur, beating Pibes Retiro 2-1 in a match where both sides came with balanced plans but the home team ended up being more clinical when it mattered most. It was not a spectacle of elaborate football, but it was a tight contest where the tactical set-up of four defending and four attacking on both sides created specific openings that the Mataderos side made better use of.

Mataderos showed their maturity down the right-hand side, where Cacho Castaño, at seventeen years of age, showed swagger in the one-on-one, while Nicolás Arcuri at right-back was solid in both phases. In midfield, Liam Arazandi carried out his role as central midfielder without flourishes but without flaws, the sort of grey performance that is sometimes more valuable than any pretty pass. Ethan Castellano on the left did his job with the natural ease of someone who has experience on the pitch. Pibes Retiro were no minor opposition: Nicolás Cadel took advantage of one move to pull a goal back, showing why he arrived at his club in almost organic fashion, from more modest pitches. His assist from Mateo Silvestre gave continuity to the visitors' attack, although it was not enough to stop Mataderos controlling the tempo when they needed to.

The Mataderos side consolidated a victory that keeps them in the race within the zone, with a squad growing on the back of youngsters who know what it means to come through from the bottom and young players who still have plenty to prove. For Pibes Retiro, there was the bitter taste of a match that was there for the taking and slipped away in the details.
