Estrella Villa Riachuelo1 - 0Juventud La Boca

Estrella Villa Riachuelo took a victory it knew how to manage against Juventud La Boca in a match where both teams opted for tactical balance. The 4-4-2 formation was the common denominator, and out of that equality of approaches came a tight game where the one-goal margin proved fair. The home side won in Villa Riachuelo on matchday 13 of Primera I - GBA Sur, in a fixture that left little room for joy but plenty for recognising who made the better use of their resources.

Cesar Rosenberg, the 32-year-old right-back who carries the story of thwarted attempts in his worn boots, was the man who sealed the win with a goal that reflects his experience. The man who arrived from Bahía Blanca with a calling card in his pocket years ago found his moment in a match where Cayetano Núñez on the right and Roberto Biagioli on the left flank kept the game ticking over without major complications. The central defence of Mati Aizpún and Tincho Plaza's shielding work in midfield gave solidity to a set-up that did not need any sparkle. At the other end, Juventud La Boca had Rafael Bravo and Claudio Pomilio as their reference points, though without managing to bring out the attacking edge they needed. Pomilio picked up a booking and Bravo another, evidence of a physical game but without excessive drama.

For Estrella Villa Riachuelo, the home win allows them to breathe in the table. For Juventud La Boca, the same old questions remain: Giuliano Bassi in midfield and his team-mates did not find the openings to really trouble anyone. The match was honest, without heroics or major mistakes. The side that deserved to win did so, with the austerity that characterises these league fixtures that feed the consistency of squads but rarely transcend. A fair victory in times when that is increasingly rare.
