Match report

Atlético Villa Devoto secured a solid victory over El Fortín de Villa Pueyrredón in a match where both teams set up in similar ways but differed enormously in their execution. The final 2-0 scoreline reflects the reality of the match more accurately than the result alone might suggest: the home side controlled the tempo, made the most of their opportunities and ruthlessly punished every mistake made by the visitors. Ultimately, it was a comfortable win that leaves Villa Devoto in a strong position on matchday 3 of Primera I de CABA.

The match was decided by fine margins and the home side’s attacking efficiency. Gonzalo Briganti, the 24-year-old right winger, was a constant headache for the Fortín defence, moving intelligently between the lines and creating space. Negro Barrera, the 26-year-old Brazilian full-back, contributed a goal, something he does not often bring from defence and which is worth more than gold at this level. Tiago Caruso, the 27-year-old forward who was booked, was the expected spearhead: awkward to handle, with movement that unsettled the opposing centre-backs. In midfield, Gael Mella orchestrated play without needing to push too far forward. At the other end, 32-year-old Facundo Muñoz tried to lead the attack, but received little support from the wings. Horacio Olivares had a difficult afternoon in defence and was booked in the attempt.

El Fortín’s task now is to review what went wrong in defence. Their left-back, Ricardo Zaghi, did not receive enough support. The visitors’ balanced 4-4-2 formation was thrown off balance by the constant pressure that Villa Devoto managed to maintain. Atlético Villa Devoto made the most of their home advantage with efficiency and tactical clarity, without needing to revolutionise anything. El Fortín leave empty-handed, with unanswered questions about a performance that did not match their opponents’ level.
