Reservas Boedo made the most of home advantage to claim a deserved win over General Alvear de Once in a match where both sides set up with similar systems and balanced mindsets. The 1-0 scoreline was the reflection of a tight pitch, with few spaces, where the small details made the difference. Chacho Espinosa, a thirty-three-year-old striker who arrived in Buenos Aires on a coach not knowing where he would sleep, was the man who scored the only goal of the afternoon. For a forward who has travelled this road, those moments are still what matter.
The match lacked spectacle but not intensity. Reservas Boedo kept their shape with authority: Ezequiel Vitale in defence showed the timing he learned in Comodoro Rivadavia, that reading of the game that comes from years of experience. At thirty-three, the Argentine centre-half was precise in the defensive area, winning aerial duels and anticipating moves. Ángel Marchetti, the twenty-year-old winger from Mendoza, had a few good runs down the right, though without decisive power. In midfield, Elías Bazzani organised the play with youthful energy but good judgement. For the visitors, Kevin Sassi in goal was reliable when called upon. General Alvear failed to create consistent danger: Mauricio Rotondo, the twenty-two-year-old striker from Bahía Blanca, was systematically nullified. Chacho Bianchi, the seventeen-year-old prospect from San Juan, barely made any impact in attack. The visitors' defence held what it could, but without conviction.
With this victory, Reservas Boedo breathe a little easier in the middle of the Primera L de CABA. The home side got what it was after: three points in a match where nothing extraordinary happened, but nor did it make any serious mistakes. For General Alvear, by contrast, this defeat leaves the feeling of a wasted opportunity, another match where the team was present but not quite enough to take anything from it.
