Liga Núñez2 - 0Vet. Saavedra

Liga Núñez showed no mercy on matchday one. Against Vet. Saavedra, the home side produced a convincing display of their 4-4-2 football, controlling the tempo of the match from the first minute without any need for bursts of inspiration. The visitors came with similar intentions in their set-up, but lacked precision in the final third to cause any real trouble. The final 2-0 neatly sums up what happened on the pitch: superiority without heroics, efficiency without needing to go over the top.

Joaco Vidaurri was a rock in the home defence. The 27-year-old centre-half from Bahía Blanca closed spaces with confidence, read the play well and gave nothing away on an afternoon when Vet. Saavedra scarcely had a sight of goal. Vicente Bellandi, the 30-year-old striker with Patagonian experience in his veins, was the attacking focal point for the home team. Despite picking up a yellow card, he was alive in the box and converted his chances. Bruno Wieczorek, the 18-year-old left-sided midfielder, brought freshness to midfield, while Rafael Bandiera, with his 32 years and his ambidextrous temperament, set the rhythm from the centre. Lucca Gil got through the afternoon without any fuss at left-back. For the visitors, Santiago Brancato in goal did what he could, but his team-mates left him little room for manoeuvre: Joaquín Corona in right midfield and Mauricio Naranjo in the back line tried to hold firm, although both were exposed. A yellow card for Naranjo summed up a difficult afternoon.

For Liga Núñez, this debut was a solid step, nothing flashy but nothing sloppy either. They won where they needed to win. For Vet. Saavedra, there is a sense of a side that needs sharpening up; the set-up was right, but the execution did not follow. And so the tournament begins: with winners who do not waste chances and losers already looking ahead to the next match in search of revenge.
