Círculo San Telmo3 - 2Estudiantes de florencio Varela

Círculo San Telmo had to suffer more than expected to keep the three points in a match they could have settled earlier. The home side won 3-2 in a fixture where both approaches were balanced, but defensive mistakes ended up being as decisive as the attacking chances. Rocco Pizarro, with his thirty-four years and that 8.4 rating, was the home side’s attacking spearhead: he scored two goals and was the anchor of a side that, at times, looked disjointed. Stefano Velázquez added one from right-back, making the most of his trademark pace to burst into the box and finish with certainty.

Villa Riachuelo came to compete properly. Gerardo Lazcano, a 36-year-old veteran with the scars of a hard career, opened the scoring with a goal and tried to impose his experience in the air. Lucio Bauer, the right-sided midfielder of just 21 years old, also got one from an awkward position, showing the away side had attacking potential. But midfielder Jorge Cordero, with a rating of 6.2, put in a faded display in midfield and even picked up a booking that could complicate things ahead of upcoming matchdays. The Villa Riachuelo defence was porous: Aaron Beristain on San Telmo’s left found gaps that Kevin Iriarte and the experienced Yago Stankovic could not fully close.

The home side controlled the key moments despite not being brilliant. Pizarro was lethal when he needed to be, and that made the difference. San Telmo keep adding points in Primera L de GBA Sur and remain in the hunt; Villa Riachuelo left the pitch with the bitterness of having competed but not being able to take anything. A match of goals and few defensive certainties, where the attackers were clearer than those charged with protecting the back line.
