Match report

Real Abasto Reserves and Club de Caballito Este shared the points in a match that neatly summed up their squads: balanced, with no obvious imbalances, with two identical 4-4-2 line-ups and mindsets that never looked to break the deadlock. The 1-1 draw was fair. Esteban Peñaloza, a 23-year-old forward who grew up in Merlo with the ball as his only available luxury, opened the scoring for the hosts with a goal that underlined his attacking hunger. But Club de Caballito Este did not collapse: Pedro Bensi, a 34-year-old right-back with the experience of someone who knows every corner of a pitch, found the way to level and made it clear that in Primera I of the GBA Sur, veterans still carry weight.

The match had two clear acts. In the first, Real Abasto Reserves were more direct, finding Peñaloza in space, which he made good use of with efficiency, assisted by a Uruguayan right-back, Gonzalo Zindato, who at 37 still shows the reflexes of a reliable defender. Gianluca Salim in the home goal had little to do in that spell, although his 7.1 rating showed that when called upon he was alert. Club de Caballito Este tightened up at the back with Yanis Boldini in the centre, a Mendoza-born centre-back who contained without standing out, and in midfield Fernando Casas moved intelligently on the right, looking to create from there. Bensi's goal came when the hosts dropped the intensity, a perfect antidote to level things up without drama.

The closing stages were a formality, with both teams understanding that the point would do. Bautista Altuna kept Real Abasto's left flank under control without any major scares, while Caballito Este did not threaten seriously again. Two similar line-ups who read each other well, with no room for surprises. On matchday 6 of this group, the draw neither adds nor takes much away: Real Abasto continue with their process, and Caballito Este confirm that they can play away without losing their identity.
