corcho junior0 - 2Indep. Villa Soldati

Villa Soldati did not need to be brilliant to take the win in Montserrat. El Porvenir tried to set things up in a balanced way with their 4-4-2, but the visitors, using the same structure, found just enough openings to break the deadlock in a matchday 6 of Primera I Sur that ended up being a controlled procession. Two goals separated the sides at the final whistle, a comfortable result for the Bahia side, who took all three points without needing to produce swashbuckling football.

Villa Soldati’s defence worked solidly thanks to Alan Salvatierra, who at 26 is continuing to establish himself as a reliable centre-back, and Oscar Puentes, the youngest in the back four at just 21, but with that knack for being in the right place without making a fuss. In midfield, Stefano Beltrame, that 29-year-old midfielder who turns up where he needs to, kept Renzo Ramos and his attempts to liven up El Porvenir’s attacking play in check. Right-back Alejandro Leyva kept Jonathan Vita at bay, with the latter unable to create danger from the left wing despite his 27 years of experience. Ramón Varese, by contrast, was a constant presence in the home defence but it was not enough to contain the visitors’ advance. Thiago Salvatore, the 32-year-old veteran operating on the right, was a relentless source of wear and tear for the Montserrat defence.

What is clear is that El Porvenir still has work to do in its ability to finish chances clinically, while Villa Soldati knew how to make the most of its opportunities with the coolness these matches demand. The Montserrat side were not poor, simply second best at the decisive moments. For the next matchday, they will have to look at what needs fixing at home.
