Patriotas Núñez1 - 1Ferro Balvanera

Patriotas Núñez and Ferro Balvanera shared the points in a match where both sides went with similar set-ups and neither managed to tip the balance in their favour. The final 1-1 scoreline sums up the match well: a tactical contest in which the two 4-4-2 formations cancelled each other out, with no clear gaps or obvious imbalances. Lionel Berazadi opened the scoring for the home side with a goal that allowed Patriotas to breathe at home, but Luis Fischer, with all the craft of a Patagonian centre-forward, levelled things up when the match was crying out for it.

The teams' performances were built on solidity rather than brilliance. Matías Borda, from right-back, tried to create danger down the flank but ended up seeing yellow for overzealousness. At the other end, Jeremías Villegas had a similar outing: a 32-year-old veteran who patrolled his left channel without any frills but also without unnecessary risks. Where there was a spark was in midfield: Misael Arrojo, the 19-year-old midfielder who joined Ferro after a successful trial, provided an assist that showed his ability in tight spaces. Ciro Arcuri, Patriotas' youth centre-back who still keeps the boots from his Mendoza childhood, also produced a valuable assist that showed his growth at this level. Both youngsters seem to be on course to give their teams more than just a presence.

The draw leaves questions for both sides. Patriotas dropped points at home when they had the advantage; Ferro left satisfied because they rescued a result that could have been worse. In the next matchday we'll see whether either of these squads can find the edge they are missing to win, because what we saw on Thursday was tactical efficiency, but little more than that.
