Atlético Villa Devoto FC0 - 2Mitre Sport

Liga Recoleta took a comfortable win from Villa Devoto with a 2-0 that reflected the difference in maturity between two teams that set out the same on paper but executed it differently. The balanced 4-4-2 formation was the same in both cases, but on the pitch experience told. The visitors had five decades’ worth of experience across their centre-backs: Enrique Pérez, at 34 with a rating of 7.5, remains a top-class centre-half, while Joaco Marini, the 36-year-old Brazilian, marshalled the defence like a man who knows how to read the game before it happens. Atlético Villa Devoto never found an answer.

Benjamín López, the Mendoza full-back aged 30 but with only a 6.7 rating, had a grey afternoon on the left against a Lucho Vidaurre, 37, who showed why Recoleta still trust him. Ian Balerdi on the right also posed no real threat. In midfield, Liga Recoleta were more effective in transition. The goals came through Nahue Etcheverry and Gael Pereyra, both forwards with a 7.2 rating who made the most of the spaces Villa Devoto left while chasing a goal that never arrived. Gastón Zola, the Paraguayan centre-half of just 22 who until recently was laying bricks in Luque, was exposed several times.

The defeat hits Villa Devoto just as they were starting out on the road. Liga Recoleta, by contrast, claim three points with the calm of a side that knows its trade. Marini picked up a yellow card that did not bother him much; at that age in defence you look after what needs looking after. For Villa Devoto, there is the bitter taste of not really competing. In Primera L de CABA, the details make the difference, and the details were won by the side with more years on the pitch.
