Deportivo Villa Crespo Veteranos took a tight win against Unión Palermo Hollywood on matchday 14 of the Primera L capitalina, with a 3-2 that reflected the character of a fixture in which both well-balanced set-ups ended up producing a goal feast. The home side knew how to manage the game better at the key moments, though they had to suffer more than expected against an away side that never gave up and kept pressing until the final minutes. Villa Crespo found their deadliest weapon in Lito Arichabaleta: the 37-year-old left-back scored two goals in a display that shows why he remains a benchmark in these veterans' tournaments. At thirty-seven, when many hang up their boots, Arichabaleta still has his appetite intact and the class to decide things in attack. Rodolfo Zapata completed the home side's attack with his goal, taking advantage of the space created by the ball movement from midfield.
Unión Palermo Hollywood had in Darío Valentini and Gonzalo Ulloa their main attacking assets. Both found the net, but their efforts were not enough to overturn the advantage Villa Crespo had built. Valentini, the 23-year-old midfielder, showed that versatility that defines him; Ulloa, even younger at 21, put up a constant fight though he ended up booked. Pichu Kovaleski and Milton Vitalini kept the game moving from midfield, with the latter also going into the book, but that attacking edge was missing which would have allowed the visitors to leave with more than frustration.
Luis Serrano in the home goal had to intervene at key moments, while the home defence with Walter Mazur at right-back and Nicolás Vallejos in midfield settled better once the match heated up. Unión Palermo Hollywood are left with the feeling of having dropped points along the way; Villa Crespo breathe easier in the table with a victory that, though narrow, makes it clear that in this league the details remain the difference.
