Mitre Sport2 - 0Patriotas Núñez

Liga Recoleta showed no mercy at home and brushed aside Patriotas Núñez with a 2-0 victory that left no doubt about who was pulling the strings in the match. Both sides came in with similar setups, balanced 4-4-2 systems, but the execution exposed a gulf between the two. The home side quickly found the spaces in an away defence that failed to close ranks with any real assurance, and the result was as comfortable as the category’s name suggests.

Gael Pereyra was the executioner in the afternoon. The 20-year-old Brazilian striker scored twice, with a rating of 8.4 that justified his place in the starting eleven. Pereyra has that knack of arriving in the box with a scorer’s instinct, something Patriotas could not nullify with their marking. The home defence, with Enrique Pérez and Joaco Marini at the centre — the Argentine, 34, and the Brazilian, 36, giving them almost seven decades between them — wove a web that left visiting forwards such as Adrián Gutiérrez with hardly any fertile ground to work in. Diogo Maldonado at right-back and Alfredo Lizarazo’s circulation in midfield ensured Patriotas never found any rhythm. Cris Bonechi and Leandro Zambrano had isolated moments of clarity in attack, but their ratings of 6.7 and 6.5 respectively summed up the mediocrity of a side that looked bereft of answers to break the home cordon.

For Liga Recoleta it was an afternoon of sound management of the win, without fuss but with authority. For Patriotas, it left the feeling of having arrived in CABA without the tools required. Pereyra scored two, but there could have been more. That is what separates sides that understand how to play away from home from those still searching for their identity.
