General Alvear de Once2 - 0Sportivo Flores Sur

General Alvear de Once did not need brilliance to overcome Sportivo Flores Sur on matchday 14 of the Primera L de CABA. The 2-0 was convincing, almost clinical, the kind of result that comes when a home side understands the match before its visitors do. Both went out with the same set-up: a balanced 4-4-2, with no frills or sophisticated tactical pretensions. But it was the execution that made the difference. The Once side were more precise, more organised, more in command of the tempo. Sportivo Flores Sur had their moments but never quite managed to settle into the game. The youngster Mariano Brignole, at only seventeen in the first line of midfield protection, was exposed several times to the home side's rhythm.

Salvador Altuna was the midfield compass for the Alvear side: he scored one of the goals with a 7.2 rating that reflects his assured circulation and his ability to find space. José Riquelme on the left, that Bahian who almost by chance arrived at General Alvear years ago, was not a superstar but neither did he fade away. The veteran Coco Granado, a defensive midfielder of thirty-one, had a solid day at the back, keeping things in order. Mauricio Rotondo up front saw yellow but always tried, with a 7.6 rating that does not scream heroics but does show commitment. In defence, Antonio Zumpano, just twenty-four, moved with the confidence of someone who feels at home on his turf.

For Flores Sur it was a grim afternoon. Mirko Ordoñez in goal did what he could, but his defenders gave him no respite. Mirko Baragiola, that left-back of thirty-two who knows the history of Argentine football from the inside, lacked the tempo to contain the home attacks. The visitors left without a goal and almost without any arguments, which in these tight CABA competitions is usually translated into a morale drop that is hard to reverse. General Alvear strengthened their winning run; Flores Sur will have to rethink things.
