Match report

Nueva Estrella Floresta deservedly came out on top against Patriotas Almagro in a match where both teams set up tactically in a balanced way, without taking any unnecessary risks. The final 2-1 scoreline reflected a closely fought contest in which the home side made the most of the chances that came their way, while the visitors left with the feeling that they had let points slip away. On the pitch in western Greater Buenos Aires, the football was practical, without too many flourishes, with two 4-4-2 formations seeking balance rather than adventure.

Samuel Pawlak opened the scoring for the home side with his attacking contribution, setting the tone from the 24-year-old Argentine forward who has spent years at the club. Cataldo Rosati, the veteran 29-year-old winger who grew up in Resistencia and never quite managed to fulfil the promise of his ambidexterity, also earned his reward on the scoresheet. For the visitors, Rodrigo Guerrero pulled one back with a goal from defence; the 28-year-old full-back from Mendoza put in a clean performance, without the mistakes that often prove costly in these matches. Horacio Galván, the 19-year-old youngster born in Comodoro Rivadavia, tried to provide assists from the right wing but could not prevent the home defeat.

The difference lay in their efficiency. Nueva Estrella Floresta converted their opportunities with composure, while Patriotas Almagro fell short of what their chances deserved. Silvio Lagos and Cayetano Anitua kept the defence organised at the back, containing the visitors’ attacks without too many complications. For the home side, it was an afternoon of serious work: three points that matter in the division and confirmation that, in Primera I of western GBA, the details continue to decide matches. For Patriotas Almagro, a painful defeat that closes no doors; there is still football to be played.
