Match report
Federación Mataderos used home advantage to take a tight match against Ferro Constitución on the opening matchday of Primera I - GBA Norte. The final 2-1 was fair on an afternoon when both sides lined up in identical 4-4-2 shapes with balanced mentality, producing an even contest where the details made the difference. The home side managed the key moments better, and Emanuel Karam sealed the win with a goal that proved decisive at the end of the first half.
Karam, the 28-year-old centre-back with a rating of 7.2, was the undisputed standout for the home side. His positioning was impeccable throughout the ninety minutes, reading every move from the visiting strikers before they could develop. Chino Villa, the 19-year-old young centre-back, also put in a good shift in the home defence, though he picked up a yellow card for overenthusiasm. In midfield, Máximo Medero controlled the tempo with composure, while Lucio Rebollo tried to inject life into the attack when space opened up. For the visitors, José Santi was the one who caused the most concern for the Mataderos full-backs; the 18-year-old winger pulled one back with authority, but it was not enough. Matías Quiroga, the 29-year-old striker with plenty of experience, provided an assist but could not make the most of the transitions Ferro managed to put together in the second half.
The match confirmed that Federación Mataderos will begin this season with a solid side, albeit without spectacular flashes. For Ferro, the defeat away from home is only a minor setback at this early stage, but it remains to be seen how they will respond when they have the pressure of playing at home. Walter Bernardini was booked in defence, while José Santi also saw yellow for overenthusiasm. A promising debut for the home side.
