Match report

Mutual Abasto did not need any great fanfare to see off Provincial Almagro in the opening fixture of Primera I de GBA Norte. The 2-0 they came away with was the fair result of a match where the home side controlled the tempo without needing to produce dazzling football. The balanced line-up of both teams promised a tight tactical battle, and that is how it played out for long spells, although Mutual ended up coming out on top in the areas that mattered.

Rocco Bazzani was the man to open the scoring for the home side, showing Mutual’s ability to deliver in attack when the space appeared. The twenty-year-old striker, brought up in Merlo, had the precision needed to make the most of what the team created. In midfield, Adolfo Zalla carried out his holding role solidly, without much fuss but without letting anything slip that should not have. At the back, full-backs Benjamín Santos and Yoel Quintero kept their lines in order, while Galo Basaldua was another reliable piece in that defensive structure that Provincial Almagro never really managed to break down. The visiting side, with the experience of Yago Ortiz in midfield and the presence of Pichu Feldman at the back, tried to hold out with what they had, but Simón Zarate in goal was left with too much to do for a goalkeeper of only twenty facing a superior side.

The second goal arrived without drama, confirming that Mutual had found exactly the right rhythm for the competition. Provincial Almagro left unable to create any real danger, something that carries weight in these early matchdays where the pace is still being built. For the home side, this victory is a solid starting point: a team that knows where it stands and that, even if it does not offer fireworks, wins when it has to.
