Match report
Pibes Montserrat made the most of home advantage being against them to take a victory they knew how to manage in the pressure moments, beating El Porvenir de San Telmo three-two in a match that was decided by details rather than clear superiority. Both teams arrived with similar approaches, 4-4-2 formation and balanced mentality, which led to an open contest where neither side was willing to give too much space away. El Porvenir had their chances to close out the match in the final minutes, but Mati Sgarbi in the away goal was decisive when needed. The opening matchday of Primera I in GBA Norte left a bitter taste for the home side, who deserved more for their commitment, though not always for the football they put forward.
Damian Mazur opened the scoring with a goal from his left-back position, showing he can pop up in attacking areas when the game allows it. Pablo Avanzi extended the lead with his goal, but that was where El Porvenir made the mistake of getting complacent. Silvio Sacchi, at 37 years of age, was the organiser of Pibes Montserrat in midfield, bringing tactical coolness when the San Telmo side were pressing. The visitors drew level through Julián Sotelo, who converted with precision, and Ricardo Guzmán brought his experience from the right with an assist that proved lethal. At the end, Couto tried again with another assist but it was too late. Alan Tosti, the left-back of the team that celebrated, dealt well with Mazur's advances down the flanks.
El Porvenir endured the final blows without being able to respond with any real threat. Avanzi was booked for the frustration of not being able to turn their first-half superiority into goals. The home side are left feeling they dropped two points on the pitch, especially having controlled the match in important spells. Pibes Montserrat, by contrast, leave happy to have won away in a difficult area, showing that Sacchi's nerve and experience can make the difference in the decisive moments.
