Match report

Liniers left no room for doubt on their season debut. With a two-goal margin against Belgrano Villa Crespo, the home side sealed a win that was more emphatic than hard-fought, although it cannot be said they ran away with it either. The 2-0 reflects the dominance of the side playing at home and their ability to make the most of their chances, while the visitors left without really troubling Marcelo Arrieta, the Uruguayan goalkeeper who had more of a watching brief than a heroic one.

Nazareno Wozniak and Cacho Pedraza, the two forwards who led Liniers’ attack, shared the goals of the afternoon. Wozniak, the 27-year-old from Comodoro Rivadavia who wears down his boots training so much in the academy, made use of his knowledge of the club to move with a certain ease. Pedraza, another 27-year-old striker who arrived at the club almost by chance, completed the job. Both posted a 7.2 rating, an indication that they did what they had to do without any special flashes. Adrián Arechabaleta, the 30-year-old left winger from Mendoza, was the main reference in attack and had an influence on the build-up play. In midfield, Tiziano Marichal, the Catamarca-born midfielder aged just 22, kept things in order without fuss with a 7.6 that confirms his potential. Belgrano Villa Crespo never found any attacking rhythm. Eduardo Granado, their 26-year-old forward, only had three or four openings without converting anything. Adrián Irala, the 27-year-old midfielder from Bahía Blanca, was a ghost in the visitors’ plans. Gonzalo Simoni, the young 21-year-old forward from Resistencia, failed to impose any pressure. With ratings between 6.2 and 6.3, the Villa Crespo side confirmed they still need more to compete on equal terms. Two 4-4-2 line-ups with a balanced mentality produced a predictable match. Liniers won because they know how to get through these fixtures without drama; Belgrano Villa Crespo lose because they have still not found the chemistry to compete. Matchday one with a clear verdict.
