Liga Balvanera2 - 0Social y Deportivo Versalles

Liga Balvanera left no room to breathe. At home, on matchday 14 of Primera I de CABA, they swept aside Social y Deportivo Versalles with a solidity that the final 2-0 barely reflects. The home side managed the game with balance, neither rushed nor speculative, taking advantage of the visitors' mistakes without needing any heroic displays. Versalles arrived with no clear tactical answers, and by the time they tried to respond, it was already over. A comfortable win, yes, but also a match where the hosts made good use of what they had.

The goals were the work of the full-backs. Pancho Mazza, who turns thirty in the form of his life, opened the scoring with a surge the visitors could not contain. Valentino Nowicki, the left-back, thirty years old and still carrying that veteran edge with a spark of fire, finished the job in the second half. Both goals came from width, which speaks of a Versalles defence that could not find its balance out wide. In midfield, Pedro Santos supervised without much fuss, more game-manager than virtuoso, while Benicio Bertolino, the nineteen-year-old striker growing into these battles, pressed high up the pitch without any softness. Cataldo Cerda in defence, the twenty-three-year-old centre-back who has been sharpening up, had no need for grand statements; he simply did his job. Gregorio Aranzeta, the thirty-six-year-old Versalles forward, failed to trouble the home back line. Constantino Savini in the visitors' goal barely saw the ball circulate on his side.

The result leaves Versalles short of breath in the table. Liga Balvanera, by contrast, picked up three solid points without any unnecessary wear and tear. It was not a recital, but in CABA football this is what matters: efficiency, order, wins without heroics. The hosts know that this is how championships are built.
