Patriotas Almagro2 - 0Aurora de Villa Devoto

Patriotas Almagro made short work of Aurora de Villa Devoto on the second matchday of Primera I GBA Oeste and confirmed that they have a different level of consistency at home. The 2-0 was comfortable and never in doubt: the performance of a side that found its rhythm early and never let it go. Aurora came to play their game, with a balanced formation similar to the home side’s, but the Almagro team were more clinical when it mattered, and that ultimately decided the afternoon.

Centre-backs Sebastián Quiroga and Valentino Hidalgo held the rear guard together well. Quiroga picked up a yellow card but did his job, while Hidalgo, the sixteen-year-old youngster who grew up kicking a ball around in Comodoro Rivadavia, scored the goal that completed the final score. He is one of those young footballers who are not intimidated. At left-back, Christian Bandini — the one who keeps his first pair of boots from 2018 as a treasured relic — was solid in defence and when supporting attacks. Aaron Valentini, the 37-year-old veteran who has spent decades in midfield, carried out his covering role without fuss, setting the tempo in central midfield. Horacio Galván, the nineteen-year-old right winger from Comodoro Rivadavia, made a few telling contributions without being the match-winner.

Aurora de Villa Devoto did not give up, but their attacking outlets could not find any space. Liam Bilbao in central midfield did what he could with a rating of 6.6, while their full-backs — Santino Sotomayor on the left and Vidal Arena, another sixteen-year-old youngster, on the right — suffered under the pressure from a home side that knew exactly how the story would unfold. Bilbao was booked in his attempt to stop them. For Patriotas Almagro, the victory gives them breathing space ahead of the next few matchdays. For Aurora, the challenge is to learn from an opponent who were more practical and left no openings.
