Ferro Pompeya2 - 2N. Estrella Floresta

Ferro Pompeya and Nueva Estrella Floresta shared the points in La Matanza with a 2-2 draw that felt like too little for both sides. The home side took the lead and had enough about them to claim victory, but the visitors showed they had sufficient resources to get a positive result from a pitch that is never an easy place to visit. Two evenly matched teams, with similar line-ups and a similar mentality, produced one of those matches where either side could have taken the win.

Cris Viardot, the home side’s attacking midfielder, approaching his thirty-second birthday, opened the scoring for Ferro with a goal that allowed the home team to settle into the match. Giuliano Montañez, a thirty-eight-year-old veteran with plenty of experience, also scored for the Pompeya side. Full-back Wilfredo Vitale provided an assist. But Nueva Estrella Floresta did not back down: Santino Palomeque, just twenty-five years old and with a 7.7 rating, was decisive with a goal and an assist. Cataldo Rosati completed the comeback with the visitors’ second goal. The final draw was a fair reflection of two squads that both had their moments.

For Ferro, the result leaves a bittersweet feeling. They had chances to win but failed to manage their lead. The home side showed understanding between the lines, but their defensive commitment failed at key moments. Nueva Estrella Floresta leave satisfied: they came away from home, faced a difficult opponent in their own stadium and took a valuable point. Santino Palomeque was the visitors’ standout, pulling the strings in midfield. On matchday 2 of this Primera I del GBA Oeste, both sides have picked up their first point, although Ferro are left feeling they have wasted a golden opportunity.
