Match report
Deportivo Caballito Veteranos won deservedly against Pibes Montserrat in a match where both teams set out to do the same thing but one had more clarity in how to carry it out. The final 2-1 fairly reflects what happened on the pitch: a tight encounter, with balanced approaches, where the home side made the most of their moments and the visitors could not turn their intent into enough goals. Daniel Huber opened the scoring for the home side, showing the kind of striking maturity his 28 years justify. Genaro Arbieto levelled things up for Pibes Montserrat with a goal that kept his side in the game, but Caballito responded and sealed it before the end.
The home defence generally worked well, with Galo Schulz at the centre of a back line that was not overwhelmed to any great extent. Ricardo Lorca in goal did his job without the need for spectacular interventions. At right-back, Indio Zappella, that 17-year-old youngster who has been at the club for little time, picked up a yellow card but it did not weigh on his performance. For Montserrat, Enrique Karam, the 32-year-old midfielder who continues to create play from the middle of the pitch, provided a valuable assist for Arbieto’s goal, showing that experience is still a valid currency in this division. The visitors never gave up but neither did they find the compass needed to neutralise the home side.
The result comes as no surprise at this stage of the matchdays. Deportivo Caballito Veteranos continues to show itself as a solid side at home, without dazzling flashes but with just enough consistency to win the matches it had to win. Pibes Montserrat leave with the feeling that something got away from them, perhaps in the finishing or in the lack of attacking thrust in the decisive spells. This kind of match, with no great thrills but decided by details, is typical of Primera I del GBA Norte.
